About Us

Queens Learning Network is a community learning organization, in Liverpool, N.S., that offers free academic upgrading as part of the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning (NSSAL).

We offer programs through funding provided by the Department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration. This funding allows us to offer CAEC preparation, Digital Skills, and E3 (Essential Skills), as well as Community Literacy Programs in Queens County.

At Queens Learning Network, we offer a variety of ways to access upgrading opportunities with in-person, distance, on-line and blended learning options. It is important to us to offer a safe, friendly environment for students to complete their studies and we will work with you to create a learning plan that best meets your schedule and goals.

Family Literacy Programs

Queens Learning Network partners with other local organizations to bring free programs to families and individuals in the community. Programs range from our home-based Queens Family Literacy programs, in partnership with the Queens Family Resource Centre, to one-on-one help with devices and apps at Tuesday Tech at the Thomas H. Raddall Library.

Included in our programs are the Let’s Learn Together Mi’kmaq language program at The Astor, as well as a Community Engagement program that introduces participants to all there is to offer in Queens.

Our History

The Queens Learning Network became a society in 1995 and since then has offered a variety of programs in both North and South Queens.

1995

In March 1995 a Literacy Grant from the Community Learning Initiative (CLI) was approved and the first programs were established.

1996-1997

In 1996 a needs assessment was done to identify the literacy needs of the county and funding from CLI was received to establish a Level 3/4 classroom in South Queens. This ran from September to March 1997.

2000-2001

The position of Tutor Coordinator was chanCAEC to a Level 1/2 Instructor. In 2000-2001, this expanded to include a part day Level 3 classroom as well as a part day Level 1/2 classroom.

2001-2002

The success of the Level 3 program resulted in it becoming a full day classroom in 2001-2002 with the Level 1/2 classroom continuing part day with both classes growing in numbers.

2004

Queens Leraning Network was registered as a Charitable Organization February 3, 2004.
